My son asked me to help him replace his rear brake
drums on his Dodge truck. I had vowed to myself that I would never do
another brake job. Compounding my fear was that it was a Dodge truck
and I knew from experience that Dodge was generally worse than anybody
else at
making trucks way more difficult to work on. See

Imagine my
surprise! When I examined the drum brake system on that Dodge I was
truly taken aback. What simplicity! What beauty! It had 2 shoe clips,
3 springs, 1 spreader and 1 adjuster. Wow! I think Dodge let all their
good engineers design their brakes.Below is
a typical brake drum assembly with its many wires springs ratchets,
spreaders, clamps, washers, and whatnot.
